Jennifer Aniston was texting ‘happy’ and ‘healthy’ Matthew Perry hours before he died: ‘He wasn’t in pain’

Jennifer Aniston says she was texting her “Friends” costar Matthew Perry just hours before his death, and that he seemed happy and healthy.

Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28. He was 54.

According to Aniston, who played Rachel Green in “Friends,” the actor was doing well before his death.

Aniston told Variety in an interview published Monday: “He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know.”

“I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling,” she added.

Aniston was interviewed by Variety alongside her “The Morning Show” costar Reese Witherspoon, who also made guest appearances in “Friends” as Rachel’s sister, Jill.

In the interview, Witherspoon said it was important that fans knew Perry, who played Chandler Bing in “Friends,” was in a much better place before he died. Aniston agreed.

“I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy,” said Aniston. “He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one.”
