Nicki Minaj shuts down Camden meet and greet due to overcrowding

Nicki Minaj was forced to cancel a meet and greet in Camden on Monday due to overcrowding fears when fans descended on Cafe KOKO.

Fresh from a performance at Finsbury Park Wireless, the rapper announced on social media she would be at the venue from midday on Monday.

But if the 39-year-old was expecting a relaxed afternoon tea in her beloved London, she would be proved wrong when hordes of screaming fans turned up to

meet ‘Barbie’.

Nicki Minaj’s meet and greet event in Camden cancelled due to overcrowding’

She wrote on Twitter: “Guys, if you don’t get in a contained space they won’t let me get out the cars. Pls don’t run in the streets. Please get in 1 place. 1 line.”

Minaj didn’t venture far from her car and was pictured being swarmed by fans as she walked with officers close by.

Police attended to close roads but it was later confirmed by the Met that the event was shut down in the “interests of safety”.

Minaj, dressed all in red and wearing a pink wig, shared her feelings on Instagram.

“My babies I love you all so much,” she wrote. “Thank you to the officers for helping us so much today.”

The Trinidad & Tobago-born star also shared her love for her north London fans after performing in Finsbury Park on Sunday.

While many fans were quick to express their love online, there was some discontent after Minaj arrived on stage 30 minutes late and only performed for 40 minutes – despite her headline slot having an 80 minute running time.

Frequent breaks and technical difficulties also beset the performance.

“I saw Cardi B and she was great and bang on time” an attendee told

“Nicki was late, barely got going, and didn’t explain why she was late.”

“Lmaoo it wouldn’t be Nicki without her being late,” wrote another on Twitter.
