Could Black Widow return to the MCU? Scarlett Johansson doesn’t think so. During an interview with Today, the former Marvel star was asked whether Black Widow will be back for another Avengers movie.
“Is it like, a zombie film?” she responded. “I think it was the end. She passed.” Of course, Black Widow met a sticky end during the events of Avengers: Endgame, sacrificing herself in place of Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) to obtain the Soul Stone.
“It would be a miracle,” she added about the possibility of Black Widow’s resurrection. “It would be a real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel.” That said, she hasn’t entirely written it off. “But, who knows?” she added.
Johansson’s comments come amid reports Marvel had considered bringing back the original Avengers, which spurred fans and critics alike to ponder which of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could return. And with Tony Stark’s heroic death in Avengers: Endgame, he’s up there, too.
“I mean, time-slipping, technically gives Loki some interesting moves he can make,” he said. “I suppose, yeah, he can move from past, present, future. I know that I can time-slip. I don’t know that other characters can time-slip.”
Whether or not Loki factors into things, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility to consider an OG Avengers reunion. And it’s worth noting Johansson is working with Marvel on a secret project, which Kevin Feige recently confirmed was still in the works.
